Kanata South Councillor Allan Hubley is calling out a group of city councillors who voiced their concerns over Mayor Jim Watson's campaign promise to cap property tax increases.
Councillors say they want to see flexibility in the budget - not necessarily a tax increase.
Joining Kristy Cameron on The Newsfeed, Hubley says that is a dangerous and slippery slope towards making Ottawa residents pay more tax.
"There are a lot of seniors and other people that are trying to live on fixed incomes and they're not getting 2 percent increases a year. Yet, when they hear councillors say 'let's let that 2 percent float. Let’s go to 3, 4, 5, 6 percent tax increases so that we can go on a spending spree' that makes people nervous. And I will never support that."
Hubley says at the end of the day, this budget discussion will be between those who want to raise taxes so they can spend that money, and those who want to keep taxes affordable for Ottawa residents.
