The Crown is recommending a 21-year-old Ottawa man, convicted of second-degree murder, be sentenced to life with a minimum of 12 or 13Â years before parole eligibility.
Devontay Hackett was convicted last month of stabbing 18-year-old Brandon Volpi to death during a prom-night fight outside a downtown Ottawa hotel in June of 2014.
After the verdict, Justice Charles Hackland asked jurors to consider how long the sentence should be.
Nine of the jurors recommended ten years before parole, the minimum.
The other three did not make any suggestions.
Justice Hackland will deliver his decision on Monday.
