Ottawa could be seeing its first driverless car in 2017.
Joining Kristy Cameron on The Newsfeed, Executive Director at the Canadian Automated Vehicles Centre of Excellence Barrie Kirk says Ottawa is the perfect place to start testing the idea.
"There's a lot of opportunity there to do that. And it would really tie in with the idea of a sense of excellence very well because you need to develop the technology but you also need to test it."
Kirk says he hopes to have one being tested in Ottawa soon.
"I'm hoping to have a vehicle in Ottawa in 2017 for demonstration. No details yet, but that's one of the things I'm working towards."
This comes after the city announced this past week their intentions to conduct a study on the vehicles next year - after a push on the idea from Kanata North Councillor Marianne Wilkinson.
