A driver and a company are facing charges in connection with this morning's fatal crash on the 417 which shut down the eastbound lanes at Carling for hours.

OPP say just before 6:00 a.m. Friday, a dual wheel assembly detached from a westbound truck, went over the median and ripped the roof off a van heading east.

The man at the wheel of the van - 50-year-old Gennadi Brianski of Carleton Place (pictured above, on the right) - was killed.

OPP say the driver of the transport - Daniel Mongeon of Gatineau - has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act with driving with a detached part.

Ottawa company ICB Food Distribution is charged under the Highway Traffic Act with operating an unsafe vehicle.

Brianski's son Dennis spoke to CTV News.

"He was just the most gentle soul you ever met in your life," Dennis Brianski said. "He was the kind of man that never asked for a hand with anything, but would give the shirt off his back if you needed it. If I could ever be half the man he was, I'd know I'd accomplished something."
