The city of Gatineau will be staging Phase One of its flood cleanup plan this weekend.
City spokesperson Yves Melanson said they'll be going into areas that are now clear of floodwaters to clear away sandbags and debris from peoples' yards and stacking them on the street so crews can pick them up.
Melanson told "News and Views with Rob Snow" that they're looking for volunteers who can commit to some physical work for a four-hour shift on Saturday or Sunday, with the first beginning at 7 a.m.
"Some of these sandbags that normally weigh 20 pounds, the fact that they've been soaked with water - they will weigh more." he said.
Melanson said volunteers should assemble at four areas to be transported to the area - the Robert Guertin Centre, the Duchesnay Arena, the Baribeau Arena, and the Robert Rochon Centre.
"We had over 376,000 sandbags....we had over 2,000 people showing up to volunteer to put the bags together, so maybe we'll get some more people to help out," Melanson said.
