The Hintonburg area around the purposed site for a new Civic Hospital Campus in Tunney's Pasture is optimistic about the idea.
President of the Hintonburg Community Association James Valcke says there's been a positive response from residents.
"From what I'm hearing, the vast majority of people are saying yes in my backyard. There is cautious optimism. The location with its proximity to the parkway there, the new LRT station. People are saying it makes a lot of sense and that's what I'm getting from members from the board and many community members I've spoken to in the neighborhood."
Valcke says though responses are positive, there are concerns about traffic in the area .. but he thinks those will be addressed.
"They'll be doing a gigantic traffic flow plan to mitigate some of those things. And, to be perfectly frank, the Civic Hospital current resides in a neighborhood with residentials surrounding the entire place. If it survived there, certainly it can be worked out to survive here."
He says another idea his residents responded positively to was the money that people can save with the new location being so easily accessible by public transit.
"One of the things that kept coming up routinely from people I've spoken to is that the savings for staff, visitors, and even out patients of having so much public transit at their fingertips for people all over the city to come in and use the hospital. That was seen as a very positive thing.”
