The president of the Ottawa and District Labour Council said it's time Mayor Jim Watson took up his challenge to visit the LRT tunnel and talk to workers about safety.
The Ontario's Ministry of Labour reports they visited the site more than a dozen times last week alone and, in one week, issued 47 orders to improve conditions.
But Mayor Watson said earlier this month that he's not heard from workers about any problems.
Sean McKenny said that if he and the Mayor went down today, they'd still find safety issues.
"It's about a safety culture, it's about some folks that are not used to some of the rules and the policies and the regulations that we have here in this province," McKenny said.
"Hopefully, at the end of the day, it can all be sorted through."
McKenny says the Mayor has probably recognized his comments weren't accurate, so it's time for him to come out and pledge to do all he can to make the tunnel site safe.
