With just days before the Ottawa Public Library Board signs off on a proposed location for the new main branch, there are plenty of alternate ideas being pitched.
Bookmark the Core released a video on Friday night suggesting several sites in the downtown core for the main branch.
In response to the outcry for a downtown library branch, Library Board Chair Tim Tierney has suggested using Someset House as a mini-branch.
"Let's face it - it's not really the prettiest pony at the show," he explained. "Maybe there's an opportunity to release some of that heritage designation and make some minor changes and put a ground floor, small branch in there through development only. That's a creative thought that came forward."
There have been other suggestions made about these mini-branches, including putting one at city hall.
Tierney said they must be careful though, so as not to handcuff any councillor to ideas about branches as the Lebreton-area branch is still five years away.
The Ottawa Public Library Board will discuss the proposed site at 557 Wellington at their meeting on Tuesday, January 31st.
