Orléans Ward councillor and Deputy Mayor Bob Monette says he will not seek re-election in the 2018 municipal vote in October.
Monette had initially said he would run for a fifth term and submitted his nomination papers May 1, the first day of filing.
However, in a statement Wednesday, Monette says he’s had a change of heart in recent weeks.
“I have been reflecting on the decision to run for re-election and came to the conclusion that the time has come to put my family first. It is never easy to reverse a decision of this kind but it is made easier knowing that it is the right one,” Monette said in a Facebook post.
He says he will remain as the councillor for Orléans ward until a new councillor is sworn in following the October 22nd election.
At publishing time, only one other person was nominated to run for the Orléans council seat: Miranda Gray.
Nominations are open until July 27, at 2:00 p.m.
