More people are getting food from local food banks than during the 2008 recession, according to the Ottawa Food Bank’s annual Hunger Report.
While Canada's economy is in better shape today, the report says food bank usage across the country has gone up 28 per cent since 2008.
Here in Ottawa one in 10 employed households still need to use community food programs to get through the month, the report finds.
The report also suggests a lack of affordable housing in our city is to blame.
