It appears the dream of an outdoor NHL game at Parliament Hill next year is dead.
The Heritage Ministry says a full-stadium game in the shadow of the Peace Tower is not feasible and is no longer being considered.
A statement says there are concerns about the effect a game would have on security, public access and everyday operations.
The NHL has organized 100th anniversary celebrations for Ottawa next year, but no outdoor game has been announced as part of Canada 150.
In a written statement, the Ottawa Senators organization says it is disappointed with the outcome despite 18 months of hard work and study.
The team says the event would have been iconic and historic.
Mayor Jim Watson is not giving up on the idea of an outdoor game in Ottawa, saying he plans to keep discussions moving forward with the team and the league.
He adds he will meet with Senators' management next week.
