She danced on live TV with Ellen DeGeneres, and now she gets to dance with Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson.
Organ donor activist Hélène Campbell is being honoured with the key to the city in a ceremony tonight because of her work advocating for organ donation through her online campaign #BeAnOrganDonor.
"I am so honoured," the double lung transplant recipient tweeted.
Campbell rose to prominence after undergoing a double lung transplant in 2012 to treat her advanced idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis - a chronic lung disease marked by an irreversible decline in lung capacity.
While she was in a Toronto hospital, she tweeted #BeAnOrganDonor to pop star Justin Bieber. Soon after, more than 2,000 Ontarians registered to be organ donors to help out others like Campbell.
In a tweet, the City of Ottawa lauded Campbell for her 'great work'. In response, Campbell tweeted at the mayor, saying she can't wait to dance with him at the ceremony.
Campbell's been honoured by the city for her advocacy before. Two years ago, the city named a Nepean street Hélène Campbell road.
