An Ottawa woman says the city's animal bylaws needs to change.
Margueret Lewis owns two servals that are wild cats that originate from Africa - resembling the look of a cheetah.
These cats are under the city's prohibited animal list, but Lewis says that they are very safe.
"These cats have been domesticated for over 5,000 years. They're one of the first cats that have been domesticated. They behave like a dog, but play like a cat. They're trainable."
Lewis says these cats have been in Canada since the 1950's and that the city's bylaw is outdated, and they should be doing their homework.
"They shouldn't be on this list. These are not 500 pound cats. We're talking cats that maybe reach 35, 40 pounds. We have dogs on our planet that are over 200 pounds. They are more dangerous than these cats are."
Lewis brought the cats into Canada legally after purchasing them in Florida two years ago, only to find out it's against the city's bylaw.
