Some of the protest movement against the new American regime will be felt right here in Canada's capital today, but with a focus on protecting and advancing women's rights.
A sister march is taking place in Ottawa Saturday morning in solidarity with the Women's March on Washington, a massive protest of more than an expected 200,000 women and allies taking to the streets of D.C.
The peaceful protest march is explicit in its promotion of intersectional feminist values: equality and equal rights for all people regardless of race, sexual orientation, or ability. It's open to anyone and everyone to attend.
Ottawa's march will start at 11:00 a.m. at the Human Rights Monument near City Hall on Elgin St.
It'll move its way down Laurier to end up at the Bronson Centre. The event will wrap up around 2:00 p.m.
The event's webpage says it will feature speeches from local Ottawa feminist activists, as well as performances by local artists supporting the cause.
More than 600 cities across Canada and the U.S. are holding similar marches, as well as sister marches around the globe, as far away as Sydney, Australia.
