A new poll suggests Canadians consider Ottawa to be the country's safest city.
The survey conducted by Mainstreet and Postmedia places Ottawa at the top of 15 major cities, with 74 percent of respondents considering our city to be safe.
That's despite a 5 percent crime rate increase, along with a 10 percent hike in the crime severity index.
Mainstreet suggests the number of national news stories focusing on federal politics and not other incidents contributes to the safe city image.
Charlottetown and Victoria round out the top 3.
Winnipeg is last.
