The province's energy minister says their plan to reduce crippling Hydro Bills is about righting past wrong and not winning votes.
The government's plan to cut hydro rates by an average of 17 per cent has been criticized for simply pushing high rates into the future.
The plan will see global adjustments lowered, and placed onto later bills under the label "green energy adjustment."
Speaking with CFRA's Kristy Cameron on Ottawa Now, provincial energy minister Glenn Thibault says the plan is ultimately the right thing to do.
Thibault says several past governments share blame for today's high hydro costs.
"No one wanted to raise their hand and say 'We'll be the ones to address what the actual costs of energy are,'" he said. "Everyone's made mistakes. We're trying to make sure we address those mistakes."
Recent leaks have found hydro bills will only fall in the short term before skyrocketing even higher than they are now.
