The Queensway Carleton Hospital is dealing with an outbreak of gastroenteritis.
The virus - commonly referred to as stomach flu - has appeared in one of the hospital's rehabilitation units and one of its surgical units.
As a result, the Queensway Carleton says bed capacity has been severely restricted.
About 12 patients have been showing symptoms, which include vomiting and diarrhea.
In a news release, the Hospital says patients cannot be admitted to the affected units because of the outbreak.
"Affected patients have been isolated on units A4 and D3 and will be permitted only one visitor per patient. Common patient areas (kitchen, therapy rooms) have been restricted. Visitors to Queensway Carleton Hospital are reminded to thoroughly wash their hands upon entering or exiting the hospital, the unit, or a patient’s room. If you do not feel well, please do not visit patients at the hospital until your symptoms have stopped for at least 48 hours."
The Hospital says it has implemented strict outbreak measures and increased environmental cleaning regimens, and they are working with Ottawa Public Health to contain and manage the outbreak.
