The Diefenbunker Museum isn't exactly flushed with cash as a deadline to help replace its toilets gets closer.
The historical site is in the midst of a contest with The National Trust where projects get money based on votes or donations.
Museum Visitor Coordinator Justin Williams says the museum uses the original cold war-era toilets and is looking to give the sixty-year-old thrones a restroom of their own to preserve them.
"One person will flush on one level, the other person will flush on the other level, and one of the them won’t go, because they’re meant to be unique."
"A lot of people think they’re broken.”
The crowdfunding competition, through This Place Matters, is giving away up to $250,000 in prizes.
Another Ottawa site is in the running as the Ottawa New Edinburgh Club wants to revitalize a boathouse.
So far it has garnered more support than the Diefenbunker.
The contest closes July 17.
