The City of Gatineau says a part of the Aylmer sector is under a tap water consumption ban until further notice.
The ban affects close to 2000 residents and is effective immediately.
The affected area is bordered by chemin Eardley, boulevard des Allumettières et and Broad, Bagot, Gordon and North.
The city says a “smell of hydrocarbon” was detected coming from the water while rehabilitation work was underway on rue Front. Water rinsing operations are underway.
Affected residents are being asked not to use the water for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth or doing the dishes. Boiling the water will not help.
Gatineau will be distributing bottled water at the centre aquatique Paul-Pelletier (325 chemin d'Aylmer). Residents will be able to use the showers at the centre until 10 p.m. Tuesday.
