Authorities have yet to say how a two-alarm fire started in Westboro on Friday afternoon.
The blaze allegedly broke out just before noon in the roof of a house at 89 Richmond Rd.
Bitterly cold temperatures made it difficult for crews to battle the fire, but they got it under control. Crews say the interior of the building was burning particularly intensly when they arrived, causing them to undergo a defensive operation.
The building was empty at the time. Area councillor Jeff Leiper stated on Twitter that he spoke to the owners of the premises, who say they are okay.
The fire caused several road closures in the area before rush hour.
